December Nights

A holiday season like no other

Evening strolls in the magic
December starlight
Street lamps on the corner
Reflecting off the snow

Wading through dark patches
Wondering what I’m doing here
All alone, as my eyes sting
Cold flowing from inside out

I long for the days when
A stranger’s smile could
Brighten my day without
Judgment or second thought

Suddenly the whipping wind
Can’t hold back my tears
As I mourn human connection
Staring at the crescent moon
